Future Syria needs democratic constitution

Residents of Garkê Legê city in Jazira Canton explained that the next phase in Syria requires a fundamental treatment of the causes of the crises by adopting a constitution that recognizes ethnic and religious pluralism and establishes a democratic system based on partnership and equality among all Syrians.

The Co-clChair of the Martyrs’ Families Authority in Jazira Canton, Mohammad Jamil, said that the absence of constitutional recognition of Kurdish rights and the marginalization of their regions for many years are among the main reasons behind the crises that struck Syria. He stressed the necessity for the new Syrian constitution to include clear provisions guaranteeing the political, cultural, and social rights of Kurds, alongside other components.

Jamil added: “Any constitution that does not reflect the reality of diversity in Syria and does not equally guarantee rights and freedoms will remain incapable of achieving stability. A pluralistic democratic system is the best option for governing the country in the coming phase.”

For her part, citizen Hemrin Jankir emphasized the importance of including women’s rights in the constitution and guaranteeing their active participation in political and social life, considering that protecting women’s rights is an essential part of building a democratic Syria.

Hemrin Jankir confirmed that respecting ethnic and religious diversity and guaranteeing the rights of all components within the constitution will establish a new phase based on national partnership.

Meanwhile, citizen Metin Ali affirmed: “Future Syria needs a democratic constitution that guarantees the rights of Kurds and all ethnic and religious components.”

He explained that constitutional recognition of these rights forms the basis for building a state based on justice and equality and puts an end to years of marginalization and exclusion.

Metin Ali added that Syria’s future cannot be stable without adopting an inclusive constitution that guarantees the rights of Kurds and all components, ensures public freedoms and social justice, and that constitutionally enshrining these principles will help end disputes and establish a new phase based on understanding and partnership among Syrians.
