The Union of Intellectuals of Rojava Kurdistan Cultural Center in Qamishlo, Jazira Canton, hosted a cultural evening on August 1, where writer and researcher Fawaz Othman signed his two latest publications, On the Banks of Love and Kurdish Women: History and Present, in the presence of intellectuals and cultural figures.

Originally from Qamishlo, Othman is a member of the Union of Intellectuals of Rojava Kurdistan. He spent more than 26 years in Germany, where he continued his research and reading, collecting Arabic, Kurdish, and foreign sources on Kurdish history, identity, and political geography. He said this work stemmed from his belief that preserving historical memory is both a scholarly and moral responsibility.

Kurdish Women: History and Present examines the journey of Kurdish women from ancient times to the present, highlighting their political, social, economic, and cultural roles, as well as their contributions to preserving language, heritage, and community-building.

Meanwhile, On the Banks of Love is an autobiographical work that recounts the author's life and long years of exile, describing how he maintained his connection to his homeland and cultural identity despite living abroad.

Speaking to ANHA, Othman said: "Kurdish women have made tremendous contributions throughout history and have always stood alongside men at every stage of life. Their achievements during the revolution further strengthened their position as essential partners in building society and shaping the future. My books also examine the roles of Kurdish and European women in promoting the image of Kurdish society."

He explained that his publications aim to contribute to a body of knowledge that serves researchers and readers, while offering a deeper and more objective understanding of the region's history and its peoples, thereby promoting knowledge, dialogue, and respect for historical truth.

Concluding his remarks, he said: "Signing these two books in Qamishlo proves that exile has never separated me from my roots, and that the written word remains the most important means of preserving memory and safeguarding identity."

To date, Fawaz Othman has published two books and is currently working on new titles that he plans to release and sign in the coming period.
