Families of prisoners Held by Interim Govt. demand their release

Families of prisoners held by the Syrian Interim Government have demanded their release. Shukriya Maish, a young woman from the city of Ad-Darbasiyah, said that no information has been received about her father since the attacks that struck the region on January 17:

“We have no information about my father since he was captured in Deir ez-Zor, and we do not know whether he is a prisoner or a martyr.”

Shukriya Maish called on the Interim Government to release her father, Abdul Ghani, along with all the other detainees, stressing that her father had been fighting in Deir ez-Zor to protect the residents there from the threat of ISIS/ Daesh mercenaries. She asked:

“Why is my father a prisoner today when he was defending and protecting the Syrian residents there?”

For her part, Silvin Maish, who hails from the village of Sosork in the southern countryside of Ad-Darbasiyah, called for the implementation of the provisions of the January 29 agreement signed between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Interim Government, and for the release of her uncle and his companions.

Meanwhile, Silva Maish pointed out that contact with her uncle has been cut off for months, saying:

“We are waiting for his return every day.”

According to the Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces, the number of missing civilian and military detainees is about 1,070 people. The Syrian Democratic Forces are making intensive efforts to secure their release, stressing that the prisoners’ file represents a central issue within the integration process under the January 29 agreement, and that it cannot be bargained over under any circumstances.
