Expanding Serêkaniyê camp to receive new families

The administration of  Serêkaniyê  camp in the Tala'a neighborhood in the city of Hasakah, which houses displaced people from the occupied city of Serêkaniyê, is working to expand the camp to receive new families of forcibly displaced people residing in one of the schools in the city of Hasakah.

According to the co-chair of the camp, Abdul Razzaq Mohammad, the decision to expand the camp came after an order was issued to evacuate one school housing refugees in the city of Hasakah. In turn, the Autonomous Administration established a site adjacent to the Tala'a camp with an area of 14 dunams, to accommodate 40 families, consisting of 220 people.

He added: "Work is currently underway to extend sewage networks and build bathrooms with the completion of the first phase, which is extending the crushed stone. It is scheduled to set up tents and receive residents during the coming week."

In a phone call made by ANHA's correspondent with a member of the committee to follow up on shelter centers in the city of Hasakah, Hamid Obeid, he indicated, saying: "38 schools in Hasakah and its countryside are housing refugees from the occupied city of Serêkaniyê, whose number is 7,300 people, within 1,363 families. Regarding the rest of the schools that house refugees,

Abdul Razzaq noted: "Studies are still ongoing regarding the rest of the schools, and the organizations do not bear responsibility for the displaced, and the Autonomous Administration is the one that provides support according to its capabilities. Expanding the camp today is not an easy matter, and requires a high cost."

He stressed, "The organizations told us that no expansion in the camp will be supported, and this is what constitutes an obstacle to evacuating the rest of the schools." At the end of his speech, he called on "all organizations and the High Commissioner for Human Rights to assume their responsibilities towards the displaced and provide them with assistance."
