Exchange figures between SDF and Interim Government as part of implementing January 29 agreement

 Prisoner exchanges continue between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian Interim Government as part of the implementation of the January 29, 2016 agreement, which stipulated a gradual exchange of detainees between the two sides in successive phases to address this issue.

According to ANHA correspondents, three major operations have taken place since the agreement came into effect, involving mutual releases between the two sides.

The first phase of the prisoner exchange took place on March 10, 2026, and involved the release of 100 individuals held by the Syrian Interim Government in exchange for 100 held by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). This marked the initial step in implementing the agreement, and those released arrived in the city of Hasaka.

The second phase, implemented on March 19, 2026, saw the release of 300 individuals held by the Syrian Interim Government in exchange for 300 held by the SDF, continuing the implementation of the exchange agreement between the parties involved.

In the third phase, which occurred on April 11, 2026, an additional 400 individuals held by the Syrian Interim Government were released in exchange for 91 held by the SDF, completing the agreed-upon exchange process.

This brings the total number of those released from the custody of the Syrian Interim Government to 800, compared to 491 from the SDF, across three consecutive releases since the agreement's implementation began.

In a related context, previous statements by the SDF's Commander-in-Chief, Mazloum Abdi, indicate that the Interim Government holds approximately 1,070 individuals, including SDF fighters and Arab and Kurdish civilians, captured during the recent military escalation that began in Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh.
