Escalation of ISIS threat in Deir ez-Zor

According to information from the Deir ez-Zor Canton, and in light of events in the countryside of Aleppo and Idlib, ISIS mercenary cells and other groups in areas under the control of the Damascus government in Deir ez-Zor have started mobilizing.

Informed sources reported that the mercenaries launched attacks on the region with artillery fire. In response, the Deir ez-Zor Military Council, part of the Syrian Democratic Forces, retaliated and took several security measures in the area.

Securing 7 villages

The Deir ez-Zor Military Council announced today, December 3, 2024, through a statement, that it has taken responsibility for the security of seven villages and deployed its forces to counter ISIS mercenary threats, responding to residents' requests.

The statement from the Deir ez-Zor Military Council said:

"Due to the dangerous security conditions resulting from the recent events in western Syria extending to the Badia region, and the serious risks posed by the imminent mobilization of large ISIS cells aiming to gain geographical control over unprotected areas, particularly in the north and east of Deir ez-Zor, we confirm that our forces are now responsible for protecting the residents of the villages of Al-Salhiyah, Tabiyah, Hatlah, Khasham, Marrat, Mazloum, and Husseiniyah in eastern rural Deir ez-Zor."

The statement added:

"The deployment of our forces to these villages comes in response to the calls and appeals of their residents following the increasing potential threats posed by ISIS exploiting the events in the western parts of the country."
