During protest, Derik women emphasizes need to protect women's gains

The Kongra Star in the city of Derik organized a protest on Sunday, March 8th on the occasion of the International Women's Day and to demand the release of all prisoners held by the Interim Government and to reveal their fate. The protest took place at the Martyr Bawer Center for Revolutionary Youth in the city.

The demonstration, which was attended by dozens of residents, began with holding a minute of silence, followed by the reading of a message from leader Abdullah Ocalan addressed to women on the occasion of March 8th. Then, the co-chair of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), Perwin Youssef, delivered a speech in which she highlighted the victories achieved by women over the years during the Rojava Revolution. She stated that women have played a vital role in various fields and at all levels, emphasizing the need for women to protect all the gains achieved.

Perwin Youssef added, "We are commemorating the International Women's Day this year during a sensitive period for Syria and the region as a whole." She noted that women have waged a great struggle against all the schemes targeting women and the people, praising the role of the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) in defending the region and its people. She stressed the importance of protecting the gains achieved by women.

Parwin Youssef also demanded the immediate release of all captives, saying, "The Interim Government must release our fighters and civilian captives. Only by releasing them can the agreements succeed."

Youssef noted that many clauses of the agreement had already been implemented and that the clause concerning captives must also be implemented. She added, "We women will continue our struggle until the clause regarding our prisoners is fulfilled."

The protest concluded with chants praising women's struggle and demanding the release of captives.
