Druze Politician: Impending agreement to grant Sweida Autonomous Administration 

Sharaf al-Din argued that describing the agreement as merely “security-related” is inaccurate, clarifying that its essence is political and directly tied to the future of Sweida Governorate. According to his sources, the agreement stipulates granting Sweida Autonomous Administration  in exchange for renouncing demands for “secession,” while establishing a local security apparatus independent of Damascus.

The deal, he added, would also open the door for economic contracts with American and Israeli companies in investment and service sectors, particularly in electricity. Furthermore, it would establish a permanent land corridor connecting Druze communities in Israel with those in Sweida.

Sharaf al-Din noted that al-Shara‘ is still negotiating the inclusion of a clause permitting his security forces to deploy in certain border villages under the pretext of deterring “tribal attacks,” but that request has so far been rejected.

In the same context, senior Syrian sources told Independent Arabia that Syria and Israel are expected to sign a U.S.-brokered security agreement on September 25.

The sources added that al-Shara‘ will deliver an address in New York ahead of the signing, during his participation in the U.N. General Assembly meetings.

According to the same sources, Tel Aviv and Damascus are not expected to sign a comprehensive peace agreement in the near future, with the deal limited instead to security arrangements aimed at reducing tensions between the two countries.
