Displaced returned to Afrin: Our homes, belongings looted

The displaced people who recently returned to their areas in Afrin reported that their homes and belongings were completely looted. One resident made clear that more than 80 olive trees were cut down, and the contents of the houses were stolen, including doors, windows, electrical and water pipes, and even furniture.

The first group of Afrin displaced residents residing in Jazira region returned to their city on March 10th, comprising approximately 400 families from the Shia, Janders, and Mobata districts. Despite the Afrin administration, affiliated with the Interim Government, announcing its commitment to providing security and meeting all the needs of the returnees, some displaced people were shocked to find their homes looted.

One displaced resident from the Mobata district, who preferred to remain anonymous, explained to ANHA agency that his house was completely ransacked, with nothing left, as windows, doors, electrical wiring, the water supply, and all other belongings were stolen.

Sources also indicated that the past eight years have witnessed significant changes in the villages and districts; the cut down of more than 80 olive trees belonging to local residents.
