Displaced Afrin residents protest in front of United Nations office

Dozens of displaced people from Afrin and Shahba gathered today in front of the Mohammad Sheikho Center for Culture and Art in Qamishlo to denounce the attacks launched by mercenaries of the interim government in Syria, backed by the Turkish occupying state, against the besieged neighborhoods of Aleppo. They also expressed their solidarity with the residents and the wounded at Khaled Fajr Hospital in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood of Aleppo.

The participants then marched toward the UNHCR building in Qamishlo, chanting slogans including:
“Afrin is one,”
“Al-Jolani and Daesh are one,”
“Death to Erdoğan,”
“The martyrs are immortal,”
and “Long live the resistance of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh.”

Upon reaching the building, the protesters demonstrated in front of the UN office against the continued attacks on civilians in the besieged neighborhoods of Aleppo. Displaced woman Shireen Hussein delivered a speech in which she stated that “the doors of the United Nations have been closed in our faces, as it ignores the suffering and demands of the Kurdish people.”

She added: “The people of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh have been struggling for years to live with dignity, and the Kurdish people—who were devastated by ISIS are today living under the most dangerous conditions.”

The participants affirmed that their struggle will continue in support of the steadfastness of the people of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh in the face of ongoing attacks.
