Demonstration against Der Spiegel over report on Kurdish Women

A protest was held today in the German city of Hamburg, organized by the Rojbin Women’s Council, with the participation of many Kurds and their supporters in front of the headquarters of Der Spiegel magazine.

The protest began with a minute of silence in honor of the female fighters who were killed in Rojava. Heike Sudmann, Deputy Chair of the Left Party parliamentary group in Hamburg, delivered a speech expressing her admiration and support for the struggle of Kurdish women. She stated that Der Spiegel’s disregard for and distortion of this struggle is unacceptable, stressing that her party will continue to stand by Kurdish women.

Human rights activist and writer Anja Flach stated that the magazine’s editorial line serves the mindset of ISIS and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, emphasizing that protest activities will continue until the magazine issues an apology to Kurdish women.

Hediye Bakrak, spokesperson for the Rojbin Women’s Council in Hamburg, said that the globally recognized resistance of Kurdish women is being undermined through such reports, considering that these publications encourage jihadist groups.

During the event, participants raised banners reading “Protect the Women’s Revolution in Rojava” and “The Women’s Revolution Is the Revolution of Humanity,” while chanting “Long live the resistance of Rojava.”
