Deir ez-Zor electricity employees strike over unpaid salaries

Electricity employees in Deir ez-Zor have gone on strike to protest the delay in receiving their salaries and benefits for more than four months. They are demanding immediate payment, the provision of maintenance supplies, and improvements to their working conditions.

Employees and workers at the Deir ez-Zor Electricity Company announced today that they have stopped working to protest the delay in receiving their salaries and financial benefits for more than four months.

In a statement, the workers said, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, that payments for network and station maintenance and repairs are also delayed for the same period. They also cited shortages of water and internet services, which have negatively impacted their living conditions.

The statement also mentioned complaints of "inappropriate treatment, verbal abuse, and false accusations" against the technical staff, which they consider a marginalization of their professional role.

The workers demanded payment of their overdue wages, funding for maintenance and operational supplies for the station, and a safe working environment that preserves their dignity. They affirmed their continued work stoppage until their demands are met.

They also pointed out that former employees and those on new contracts have received their dues, while accusing employees in the "integration" phase of the project of being excluded from receiving payments.
