The state police commissioner, Mal Lanyon, said that the injured, including two police officers, were transferred to hospitals in Sydney, confirming that several injuries were described as serious.

Lanyon explained that one of the shooters is named Narvid Akram and resides in the southwest of Sydney, noting that one of the attackers was killed, while the other was injured and is in custody receiving treatment in the hospital.

The police commissioner confirmed that the investigations are still in their early stages, and that the available information regarding the circumstances of the attack and the perpetrators remains limited, noting that initial indicators suggest the attack was aimed at targeting the Jewish community during Hanukkah celebrations.
