DAA offers condolences on the passing of musician Ziad Rahbani

The representative of the Democratic Autonomous Administration for the North and East Syria region in Lebanon, Abdel Salam Ahmed, along with political activists, visited the family of Lebanese musician Ziad Rahbani, the son of the iconic singer Fairouz, to offer condolences.

In the family’s guestbook, Abdel Salam wrote on behalf of the Democratic Autonomous Administration: "We close the chapter of a man who turned the musical note into a stance, the stage into a battleground, and words into daggers in the side of ugliness. He was not just an artist, but a living conscience whose voice rose when everyone else was silent. He lived freely and died as he lived: unlike anyone else."

His support for oppressed cultural identities, including the Kurdish identity, was evident when he affirmed that the buzuq (a traditional musical instrument) is of Kurdish origin, adding with sarcasm that the Turks "took over" it, as they did with many other things, in both a political and cultural reference.

"Rest in peace, son of Fairouz and Assi, you have said enough, and left us with enough to understand, grieve, rebel, and love. Peace be upon you... and upon your true Beirut."

It is worth noting that musician Ziad Rahbani passed away on Saturday, July 26. He was known for his bold stances and sharp criticism of the Lebanese and Arab political and social realities. Despite his significant family legacy, he chose an independent artistic path, becoming an inspiration to an entire generation of artists and intellectuals.
