DAA educational certificates days away from official recognition

The issue of recognizing and equating certificates issued by educational institutions affiliated with the Democratic Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria has reached a breakthrough after a series of meetings and discussions held between committees from the Autonomous Administration and the interim government responsible for the integration process. The talks aimed to overcome the state of suspension and achieve full recognition after both sides reached an agreement.

Sources familiar with the meetings taking place between the integration committees and the educational authorities affiliated with the Autonomous Administration and the interim government told ANHA agency that discussions during the past phase, since the beginning of May, have produced positive results regarding the equivalency of certificates issued under the Autonomous Administration’s curricula.

Closed-door meetings were held away from media coverage in Hasakah province as well as in Damascus over the past ten days. The meetings brought together integration committees from both sides and the Ministries of Education and Higher Education in the interim government to discuss mechanisms for recognizing and equating certificates issued under the Autonomous Administration’s curricula across all educational stages.

The sources confirmed that the meetings resulted in an agreement to complete all necessary arrangements and officially announce the recognition and equivalency of certificates issued by the Autonomous Administration throughout Syrian geography.

The sources noted that the decrees are awaiting final signatures from the concerned authorities within the government and are expected to be issued within the coming days.

This development comes within the framework of the understandings linked to the January 29 agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the interim government regarding the integration of educational institutions. Previously, the Ministry of Higher Education had announced steps related to integrating the University of the East into a branch of Euphrates University, while indicating that the certificates of its graduates would be recognized in accordance with legal frameworks.
