The city of Amuda in the Jazira Canton witnessed a protest action organized by a group of young women to condemn the crime committed by a mercenary affiliated with the Syrian interim government. The crime involved cutting the braid of a female fighter from the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) after her martyrdom in the city of Raqqa.

During the action, the young women organized themselves into groups and wore the colorful Kurdish scarf as a symbol of identity and belonging. Each participant braided the hair of her friend, in a scene that reflected deep pride in Kurdish identity and a strong commitment to women’s freedom and dignity.

Through this symbolic act, the participants affirmed that such practices will not break women’s will, emphasizing that “in the place of every braid, millions of braids will grow.”

During the protest, the young women chanted slogans including “Woman, Life, Freedom,” delivering a clear message of their commitment to resistance and their rejection of all forms of humiliation and violence directed against women, particularly women fighters.

The participants stressed that this action comes as a societal and moral response to violations targeting Kurdish women, and renews the pledge to continue the struggle in defense of human dignity and the values of freedom and equality.
