Consultative meeting held in Sweida in preparation for "Sweida Peace Conference"

An expanded consultative meeting was held on Monday in Sweida in preparation for a general conference under the title "The Sweida Peace Conference," with broad participation from various political, social, and cultural figures in the city.

The meeting was attended by a group of politicians, activists, intellectuals, and jurists, along with dignitaries and sheikhs from Sweida, representatives of the spiritual leadership of the Druze Unitarians, and representatives of youth and women's organizations and civil society institutions.

The meeting was held under the slogan "Together We Work Hand in Hand for the Safety of Sweida." The preparatory committee explained the reasons and motivations that led to organizing this meeting, emphasizing that it constitutes a preliminary step towards holding the general conference, which will express the vision of the people of Sweida and its countryside for the future of the city and Syria in general.

During the meeting, participants presented a series of opinions and proposals that focused on the most appropriate form of governance for Sweida and its countryside, the mechanisms for governing the country as a whole, ways to deal with the transitional government, and the people's position on the events that took place in Sweida last July.

Shaker Abo Hassoun, the member of the preparatory committee, told ANHA agency that the goal of the consultative meetings and general conference is to unify ranks and fulfill the aspirations of the region's residents after the events the city has endured over the past months. He stressed that this step also serves to affirm the right to self-determination demanded by various segments of society in Sweida.

In terms of the date of the "Sweida Peace Conference," Hassoun made clear that setting the date is linked to the results of the preliminary consultative meetings that will be held in the coming period in Sweida and its countryside.
