In a statement issued early this morning, the Command of the National Guard Forces announced that the transitional government forces in Syria, stationed around the Rima Hazem–Mazra’a area, committed a new violation of the truce by launching heavy gunfire from 23 mm machine guns toward the town of al-Majdal, “targeting civilians in an attempt to spread fear among the population.”

The statement explained that “National Guard units immediately and decisively responded to the sources of fire, carrying out an appropriate counterattack that succeeded in silencing them.”

The Command affirmed that its forces will continue performing their defensive duties with full readiness and will firmly respond to any ceasefire violations or threats to citizens’ security, ensuring the protection of civilians.

Eyewitnesses reported that the clashes continued intermittently until the early hours of this morning, accompanied by heightened security tension in the area.

Since July of this year, Sweida and its countryside have witnessed repeated violations of the ceasefire agreement between the two sides, following a wave of military escalation that resulted in the deaths of more than two thousand people.
