Clashes resume in Sweida countryside amid rising tensions

Clashes have resumed between the Internal Security Forces and the “National Guard” in the western countryside of Sweida, according to ANHA correspondent, following a period of relative calm after fierce clashes that continued from last evening until dawn today.

According to information from the area, renewed confrontations have been reported along several fronts in the western countryside, involving heavy weapons and mortar shells, amid escalating security tensions in the region.

The clashes initially erupted in the early evening hours yesterday and continued until dawn today, particularly along the fronts near the villages of Walgha, Rima Hazem and Tal Hadid. A period of relative calm then prevailed, punctuated by intermittent bursts of gunfire.

Earlier, the Internal Security Command in Sweida province said that 10 of its personnel had been injured after positions belonging to its forces in the Tal Hadid area and the Walgha front came under attack.

Local sources said that one person was killed and three others injured in the city of Sweida.

Earlier reports had indicated that three people were injured and another was killed in the clashes, with no precise information available regarding the number of injured or the nature of their injuries.

The renewed clashes come amid continued security tensions in the western countryside of Sweida, against the backdrop of ongoing confrontations between the two sides. Fears remain that the escalation could continue and the clashes could spread, with potential repercussions for the security of villages and surrounding areas, as well as civilian movement.
