Clarificatory statement from PYD

The Media Office of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) issued a clarification to the public opinion regarding the statement released by the General Secretariat of the Kurdish National Council in Syria and the content it included. The clarification stated:

“We have followed the statement issued by the General Secretariat of the Kurdish National Council in Syria, and the allegations it contained, as well as attempts to distort the facts related to the work of the joint Kurdish delegation. Out of our national responsibility and respect for the Kurdish public opinion, we would like to clarify the following facts:

First: The Democratic Union Party has been, and continues to be, keen on activating the work of the joint Kurdish delegation as a product of a collective Kurdish political will. In this context, we took the initiative more than a week ago to call for a meeting of the delegation to discuss recent developments and mechanisms for resuming its work. However, the Kurdish National Council did not respond to this invitation and showed no readiness to hold the meeting or proceed with the tasks assigned to the delegation. It is regrettable that it now seeks to hold others responsible for a state of stagnation that it could have contributed to overcoming.”

Second: As representatives of a large number of forces and parties that have granted us their mandate within the joint Kurdish delegation, we held a consultative meeting with representatives of those political parties and forces. During the meeting, we presented a detailed report on the delegation’s work, the contacts it had conducted, the results achieved, and the obstacles it faced, in line with the principle of transparency and in respect of the political mandate entrusted to us.

Third: During the meeting, we asked the political parties and forces to present their assessment and vision regarding the next stage, and to specify what they consider appropriate steps to preserve Kurdish unity of stance and ensure the continuation of the delegation’s work. This is particularly important given the continued intransigence of the Kurdish National Council and its refusal to engage seriously in joint work, which has negatively affected the delegation’s performance and weakened its ability to fulfil the role for which it was formed.

Fourth: The statement issued by the Kurdish National Council, instead of constituting a responsible review of the positions that led to the paralysis of the delegation’s work, has confirmed the continuation of a pattern of evading responsibility and attempting to mislead the  public opinion by distorting facts and directing accusations at others. It also completely ignored the initiatives that were put forward to activate the delegation’s work, choosing instead to persist in a policy of obstruction rather than contributing to overcoming it.

This statement does not reflect a commitment to the success of joint national work; rather, it once again confirms the ongoing avoidance of the requirements of national partnership and a drift behind calculations and agendas that do not serve Kurdish unity or the Kurdish cause in Syria. While we remain committed to our national responsibility and to the joint Kurdish delegation as an inclusive framework for defending the legitimate national rights of our people, we hold accountable anyone who obstructs its work for weakening the Kurdish position at this critical juncture. We affirm that history and the Kurdish people will judge positions based on actions, not statements.”
