Circular in Hasakah requires fuel stations to accept old currency

The Energy Services Directorate in Hasakah Governorate issued a circular on Monday instructing owners and operators of fuel stations and fuel distribution centers to accept the old Syrian currency still in circulation from citizens and not refuse to sell fuel on the grounds that the new currency is unavailable.

The circular states:

"Dear owners and operators of fuel stations and fuel distribution centers in Hasakah Governorate:

To ensure the continued supply of petroleum products to residents and prevent disruptions or interruptions in sales due to a shortage of the new currency in circulation, all fuel stations and fuel distribution centers have been instructed to accept old Syrian currency from customers and not refuse sales due to the unavailability of the new currency.

The stations and centers are required to deposit the old banknotes they receive with the Central Bank or authorized exchange centers, in accordance with the applicable procedures, and exchange them for the new currency to enable them to purchase fuel and continue operating normally.

All concerned parties are required to comply with the provisions of this circular and refrain from using the type of currency in circulation as a pretext for refusing sales or disrupting services to citizens. Necessary measures will be taken against violators in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
