The delegation, consisting of parliamentarian Rubén Wagensberg and parliamentarian and President of the Popular Unity Party, Carles Albert, met with Rohilat Afrin, member of the General Command of the Women’s Protection Units, Roxan Mohammed, spokesperson for the YPJ, and Avinar Derik and Destina Halab, members of the YPJ Military Council, to assess recent developments.

The two sides discussed the threats facing the women’s revolution in the North and East Syria region, in particular. They also addressed the consequences of the fall of the Ba'ath regime and the extremist forces that have already expanded their dominance in the region, which will have an impact on shaping Syria’s governance system in the future.

Rohilat Afrin, member of the YPJ General Command, described the resistance shown by the Syrian Democratic Forces against the occupation attacks as "a historic and pivotal moment" for the people of the region. She stated: “The Middle East is being redesigned, and thus there are many interventions, especially in Syria, where paramilitary forces and armed groups are being used to reshape the region. This creates significant risks for regional security, society’s future, and women.”

Rohilat Afrin emphasized, “Our goal and duty in the Women’s Protection Units are to protect women and communities from these risks. Attacking women means destroying society. For example, there is no place for women in the new government formed in Damascus. Additionally, with Turkey’s attacks on the North and East Syria region, the resurgence of ISIS mercenaries has also come to the forefront. ISIS cells view such times as an opportunity to reorganize, which also poses a new threat to the entire world.”

The delegation stressed that the people of Catalonia support the just cause of the people of North and East Syria. “The people must remain vigilant and stand against Turkish occupation attacks on the North and East Syria region,” they said, affirming that the autonomous administration system is an important project for the Kurdish and Arab communities, as well as for the entire Middle East. “This system is also essential for the whole world.”

On behalf of the Women’s Protection Units, especially the fighters on the frontlines resisting mercenary and Turkish occupation attacks, Rohilat Afrin expressed gratitude to the people of Catalonia. She emphasized that in such circumstances, it is also important to recognize that the dedication and support of the women and people of Catalonia for the resistance in North and East Syria is a source of pride.
