Since the outbreak of war between the Hamas movement and Israel on October 7 last in Gaza, the circle of conflict in the Middle East region has expanded, involving other forces, such as the Lebanese Hezbollah.

Israel and Hezbollah have exchanged various targeting operations along their border area on an almost daily basis since the start of the war between Hamas and Israel.

The Lebanese fear that these attacks between Hezbollah and Israel will escalate into a comprehensive war on all Lebanese lands.

But the researcher in political and strategic affairs, Brigadier General Khalil al-Helo, indicated that Hezbollah does not want to enter into a comprehensive war with Israel, and he told ANHA agency that this “will weaken Hezbollah and its internal agenda will be disrupted, so it does not want to reach a comprehensive war.”

Therefore, according to al-Helo, Hezbollah launches its attacks in a balanced manner, but about a month ago the situation changed and Israel took the initiative to launch operations on a broader scale, such as targeting Hezbollah figures, headquarters, and warehouses, and for example targeting the leader of the Hamas movement, Saleh al-Arouri, deep in the southern suburbs. As well as targeting the most prominent military official in Hezbollah, Wissam al-Tawil, who is the head of the training and confrontation unit in the Radwan Brigade.

Israel also continues to target dozens of villages daily that have become afflicted, such as the towns of Kafr Kila, Naqoura, and others, al-Helo pointed out in this context that Hezbollah is continuing its response, and the number of operations may reach 20 per day.

Are all-out war scenarios in Lebanon approaching?

Regarding the expected scenario in the next stage, al-Helo considered that the fear is that Israel will launch a large-scale operation in the south, despite the United States’ opposition to this matter, considering that any large-scale operation will be the fuse to ignite the region.

Al-Helo continued that Iran does not want Hezbollah, which is its “crown jewel” to be targeted at the expense of Palestine.

He added that Iran may involve Hezbollah in the war in one case, which is targeting the Iranian nuclear program, and then Lebanon will respond.
