Berivan Hassan: With women's leadership, we ahead towards achieving Kurdish unity

A member of the Presidential Council of the Kurdish National Congress – Rojava, Berivan Hassan, confirmed that uniting Kurdish women is a pivotal step to liberate the Kurdish people from the dangers threatening the gains of their revolution in Rojava.

This came on the sidelines of the first conference of Kurdish women in Rojava, which was held on Sunday, March 23, 2025, under the slogan "The leadership of Kurdish women ensures Kurdish national unity," in the Azadi Park hall in Qamishlo city.

The conference witnessed the participation of around 300 delegates, including political party members, intellectuals, writers, artists, journalists, representatives from

women's organizations and movements, and institutions of Democratic Autonomous Administration DAA, in addition to representatives from Aleppo and Damascus.

In this context, Berivan Hassan congratulated the holding of this conference for all women, especially the mothers and martyrs who aspired to unify the Kurdish ranks, and affirmed, "With the leadership of women, we are taking an important step towards achieving this goal."

Regarding the conference's agenda, Berivan mentioned that they discussed many important topics, most notably the current political situation in the region, particularly the situation in Syria. She added, "We, Kurdish women, need to assess our current situation in light of the circumstances and plans being implemented in Syria, and to define our demands and rights in the new Syria. This is very important for us because the revolution in North and East Syria was led by women, and women have been at the forefront in various political, military, economic, social, and organizational fields."

She indicated that preparations are underway to hold a Kurdish conference, adding: "Today, the first conference of Kurdish women was held with the participation of women with great determination and hope. We aim for this conference to be the path towards unifying the Kurdish house."

She explained that Syria is characterized by its cultural, national, and religious diversity, and it is important for such conferences to pave the way for peaceful and secure coexistence, where everyone's rights are respected and no party is excluded or marginalized.

Berivan affirmed that the demand of Kurdish women is to unify the Kurdish house and achieve the hopes and goals of the Kurdish people, as well as fulfill the aspirations of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for peace and freedom. She added, "We must learn from the Kurdish uprisings that occurred in various years but failed due to divisions. However, today, under the leadership of women, we can achieve Kurdish unity. Uniting the ranks of women guarantees them a fundamental role in determining their destiny within the new Syria."
