Bafel Talabani calls for protecting Kurdish rights in Syria’s new constitution

During his meeting yesterday in Sulaymaniyah with the Russian Ambassador to Iraq, Elbrus Kutrashev, PUK President Bafel Talabani discussed the situation in Syria and the Kurdish issue.

Talabani underscored the importance of respecting the unique status of the Kurds in Syria, saying: “The distinct identity of Rojava must be respected, and the rights of our people must be protected within the framework of the new Syrian constitution.”

He concluded his remarks by affirming that protecting the rights of all communities is the foundation for building lasting peace and stability in the region.

Both sides discussed the overall situation in the Federal Region of Southern Kurdistan and Iraq as a whole, stressing the importance of continuing constructive dialogue among the different parties to resolve issues and strengthen stability in the Middle East.

In another part of the meeting, both sides emphasized the need for transparent and fair elections that safeguard the rights of all citizens and contribute to achieving greater progress for the country.
