Autonomous Administration marks 7 years in NE Syria

The celebration was attended by representatives from the Syrian Democratic Council, the Confederation of Democratic Organizations, the Democratic Union Party, the Syrian Democratic Forces, as well as various bodies and institutions of the Autonomous Administration. 

Hussein al-Othman, Co-Chair of the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration, delivered a speech emphasizing that this anniversary is a historic milestone reflecting the joint struggle of the region’s peoples.

Al-Othman stated: “Our administration was established under difficult conditions, as Syria and our region faced serious threats. Terrorism tried to undermine human dignity and freedom, but the people of North and East Syria, from all components, resisted these attacks with solidarity and determination. The Autonomous Administration is the result of their struggle and their desire to build a democratic model that guarantees justice, freedom, and equality, with women leading the way.”

He added: “Today, the administration represents hope for all Syrians amid the country’s political and economic crises. More than five million people currently live under its governance, demonstrating their ability to manage their affairs and develop institutions despite ongoing sieges and threats.”

Al-Othman also paid tribute to the Syrian Democratic Forces, Women’s Protection Units, and Internal Security Forces, describing them as “the strong shield against terrorism and the guarantee of stability.”

Mahamoud al-Meslet, Co-Chair of the Syrian Democratic Council, also addressed the audience, stating that the Autonomous Administration is not a local or narrow project but has become a national institution reflecting Syria’s diversity. He said: “The Autonomous Administration has proven that coexistence and mutual respect are the only path to building a free and democratic nation, ensuring social justice and freedoms for all Syrians. This model emerged from the hardships of war and marginalization, offering the world an example of Syrians’ ability to govern themselves and protect their regions from chaos and division.”

Al-Meslet emphasized that the Syrian Democratic Council sees the Autonomous Administration as a pillar of Syria’s future. He highlighted the importance of strengthening community partnerships, exchanging ideas among institutions, and standing united in facing challenges. He also noted that the March Agreement between Ahmad al-Shara and General Mazloum Abdi forms a fundamental basis for a united Syria and a homeland inclusive of all Syrians.

Mohammed Sheikh Ali, Co-Chair of the Martyrs’ Families Council in the Autonomous Administration, stressed that the administration is the fruit of the martyrs’ sacrifices. He said: “Our martyrs guide us toward the future. They are the foundation of this democratic experience. We, the families of the martyrs, renew our full support for the Autonomous Administration to remain faithful to their principles.”

The ceremony concluded with a series of cultural and artistic performances, amid a sense of pride in the achievements of the past seven years.
