The Australian government has again denied plans to repatriate its citizens who joined ISIS from the Roj camp in NE Syria, confirming that there are no steps being taken to bring them back.

Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke emphasized that there is no process underway to repatriate this group, while Prime Minister Anthony Albanese had previously stated that his government would not assist their return.

The issue of repatriating ISIS families is a politically sensitive one in Australia, particularly with the rise of the right-wing, anti-immigration One Nation party, led by Pauline Hanson.

ISIS is designated a terrorist organization in Australia, and membership in the group carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison. Authorities also have the power to revoke the citizenship of dual nationals if they are found to have joined the organization.
