A short while ago, the Deputy Commander of Internal Security Forces in al-Hasakah, Mahmoud Khalil, announced progress in the file of prisoners and displaced persons in Syria within the framework he described as "the ongoing coordination between the concerned parties."

Khalil said on his account on the X platform: "As part of the steps for joint coordination, an agreement was reached to form a committee to follow up on the issues of the displaced and the prisoners." Accordingly, the records and registers of the prisoners were exchanged with the government, awaiting the final arrangements to release a new batch tomorrow, Tuesday, March 10, 2026.

This comes at a time when the cities of Rojava have been witnessing daily protests organized by the families of prisoners, political activists, and representatives of civil society, condemning what they describe as the interim government's procrastination in implementing the clause for the release of prisoners, despite the agreement signed between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the interim government on January 29.

And these prisoners are fighters who were captured while withdrawing from some positions according to the agreements made between the interim government and the Syrian Democratic Forces.

The commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, stated two days ago that the total number of detainees held by the interim government is around 1,070 people, including civilians.
