According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the attackers managed to loot financial safes designated for the distribution of citizens’ payments. Reports indicate that more than 80 million Syrian pounds, allocated for the salaries of employees and retirees in the city, were stolen during the operation.

The attack left the center completely out of service, triggering widespread anger and frustration among residents, particularly retirees who had gathered since the early morning hours to collect their monthly pensions. Instead, they were met with closed doors and were asked by employees to leave and return at an unspecified later date, without any alternative arrangements for receiving their payments.

The incident comes amid a complete absence of official statements from the interim government regarding the security breach and the fate of citizens’ financial entitlements.

The robbery has raised urgent questions and deep concerns among locals. Alongside the severe economic hardship already burdening Syrians, even the modest salaries of retirees have now become vulnerable targets amid ongoing security chaos.
