Araghchi: Ready to Negotiate with Washington if Compensated for Damages

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran is prepared to resume negotiations with the United States, provided that Washington compensates Iran for the damage caused by last month’s attacks on its nuclear facilities. He emphasized that the resumption of dialogue requires a genuine American commitment and the lifting of sanctions, warning that continuing the current approach renders talks pointless.

Speaking to Iranian state television on Saturday, Araghchi said:
"Iran is ready to negotiate with the United States if the Americans compensate us for the damage caused by the attacks on our nuclear facilities last month."

He added that Iran would not return to the negotiating table unless it is assured of Washington’s serious intention to reach a mutually beneficial agreement.

“We are not yet convinced to resume negotiations with the United States,” Araghchi noted.

Separately, Russian media quoted Iran’s ambassador to Moscow, Kazem Jalali, as saying that Tehran no longer sees value in dialogue with Washington following the recent attacks on its nuclear infrastructure.

Jalali stressed that any resumption of talks requires clear commitments from the U.S. side and a lifting of sanctions. He reaffirmed that Iran would not relinquish its right to a peaceful nuclear program, including uranium enrichment.

He also pointed out that Iranian public opinion has grown increasingly skeptical of the value of dialogue following Israeli and American strikes. “The current circumstances are not conducive to negotiations,” he said, “as Washington has made no effort to change its behavior… dialogue without genuine commitments becomes a deceptive process that cannot be trusted.”

Jalali further underscored that Iran has no intention of developing a nuclear bomb, stating: “Such a weapon does not align with our national security doctrine,” citing Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s religious decree (fatwa) prohibiting the development of nuclear weapons.
