Aleppo's meeting discusses women’s liberation, democratic life

Under the slogan "Women, Life, Freedom," the Women’s Support and Empowerment Association held a meeting at Cesar Hall in Aleppo’s Al-Jalaa neighborhood.

 The gathering brought together independent women, educators, lawyers, members of the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhood councils, as well as representatives from women’s organizations and movements.

 The meeting commenced with a moment of silence in honor of fallen martyrs, followed by the reading of the session’s main theme by Shiraz Mohammed, the member of the Women’s Support and Empowerment Association in Aleppo.

 The theme underscored the philosophy of "Women, Life, Freedom" as a fundamental pillar of women’s existence and identity, emphasizing their historical struggle for freedom. It highlighted women's participation in revolutions and uprisings and their continued resistance in all spheres of life.

 The discussion also explored pathways to women's liberation: "Through unity, organization, and collective strength, we must advance our society with determination and resilience as part of the Syrian women’s revolution. Establishing a unified Syrian women’s coalition across all communities is essential to achieving a free and democratic life." 

Aras Kormisto, a civil society activist specializing in women’s rights, stressed that ensuring women’s rights is crucial for regional stability:

"Women still lack the right to pass their nationality to their spouses and children. This remains a significant legal shortcoming. Without a fair constitution that safeguards women’s rights, lasting stability will not be achieved."

 Similarly, lawyer Mais Al-Reem pointed to the marginalization of women as a consequence of the lack of enforcement mechanisms for laws designed to protect them:

"The absence of effective implementation weakens women’s rights. Our priority should be activating existing laws, followed by establishing protective legislation and reshaping the stereotypical portrayal of women in the media."

 Safaa Abdel Qader, a member of the Safa Orphans Association, emphasized women’s role in societal transformation, urging women to initiate change from within and pass it on to future generations to build a just and equitable future for the country.
