Aleppo women vow to continue struggle for physical freedom of leader Ocalan

Women from the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods of Aleppo spoke about the strict isolation imposed on Leader Abdullah Ocalan and the deprivation of his “Right to Hope,” pointing out that Turkey has taken no serious steps in response to the peace call issued by leader Ocalan on February 27 of this year.

Fahima Mohammed said, “International human rights organizations must pressure Turkey to release the leader. The isolation continues despite his call for peace and a democratic society.”

She added that the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) responded to the leader’s call and announced its dissolution, while Turkey has shown no seriousness in its actions.

Fahima confirmed that Leader Abdullah Öcalan strives for peace and resolving long-standing issues, stressing that “he should not be punished by continued imprisonment but should be granted the ‘Right to Hope’ to lead the peace process and bring democratic change to end wars.”

She added, “We will not stop demanding the leader’s freedom as long as we live, for all he has done for our cause and for enlightening us about the dangers of blind obedience to authority.”

Amina Mohammed Mustafa said that leader Abdullah Ocalan has spent more than a quarter of a century in Imrali for the sake of humanity and the freedom of peoples, stressing that “his release is the least Turkey can do in return for his ideas, which have preserved geography and historical relations.”

Shirin Khashman also emphasized the need to achieve the physical freedom of leader Abdullah Ocalan, calling on the Turkish state for transparency and to align its words with its actions. She warned against exploiting the current stage for its own interests, as that would place Turkey in a difficult position to escape from.

Shirin added that the PKK responded to the leader’s call by dissolving itself and withdrawing its forces from Northern Kurdistan, yet Turkey has shown no genuine intention to make the peace process succeed in practice.
