Today, the Council of Tribal Elders in Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh issued a statement to the public, in which they expressed their wish to meet with leader Abdullah Ocalan, affirmed their support for the peace process he leads, and welcomed the message he sent to Syria’s tribal elders and sheikhs.

Before the statement was read, Council member Mohammed Beko recited Leader Ocalan’s message. Afterwards, Sheikh Ahmed Sadiq Haidar Agha, leader of the Didan al-Barazi tribe in Syria, read the council’s statement.

The statement welcomed Leader Ocalan’s message, saying: “We, the tribal elders and sheikhs in the city of Aleppo, have read the message of Leader Abdullah Ocalan and considered its underlying meaning, and we found nothing but love and peace, as we have always experienced. The leader’s thought and philosophy have always been positive, and what we saw today is yet another positive message calling for the preservation of civil peace and the building of a democratic, pluralistic, decentralized Syria that protects all its sons and daughters, its sects, religions, and its ethnic, racial, and tribal components.”

The statement affirmed that the leader’s message is consistent with the aspirations of the Syrian people, explaining: “We believe that this message embodies the dream of the Syrian people in all their components, and we are an inseparable part of this dream. We will continue to work with all parties that support civil peace and strive for the democratization of Syria, foremost among them the Syrian Democratic Forces, which have come to represent a real hope for all Syrians in uniting their ranks across all communities.”

The statement pledged: “To preserve the brotherhood of peoples and coexistence without racial, religious, or sectarian discrimination with all the strength we possess. Therefore, we declare to the European Union and the United Nations that we wish to meet with Leader Abdullah Ocalan.”
