Al-Monitor: U.S. Envoy Tom Barrack to meet SDF's Mazloum Abdi in Hawler

U.S. forces have met with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the Deir Hafir area of northern Syria, in a move aimed at easing tensions after weeks of escalation. Meanwhile, an American website revealed that Tom Barrack intends to hold a meeting with Mazloum Abdi soon in Hawler.

The U.S. Special Envoy to Syria, Tom Barrack, intends to hold a meeting soon with the Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, in Hawler, according to the American website Al-Monitor.

The website indicated that the visit primarily aims to reduce tensions and prevent any potential escalation.

This comes at a time when the city of Deir Hafir is witnessing escalation by the Syrian interim government, along with media mobilization against the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.

In a related context, a delegation from the International Coalition met today with SDF leadership in the Deir Hafir area.

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said it is closely monitoring developments.

CENTCOM spokesperson Captain Tim Hawkins told Al Arabiya English: “U.S. forces recently arrived temporarily in Deir Hafir to assess the situation on the ground, communicate with Syrian partners, and help achieve stability.”

Hawkins added: “A Syria that enjoys internal peace is critically important to maintaining peace and stability throughout the entire region.”
