al-Hajri: declaring separate region is way to ensure security, stability

The spiritual leader of the Druze Unitarians, Hikmat al-Hajri, called on free nations and people on Monday to "stand by the Druze in Sweida, in order to declare a separate region that guarantees permanent protection for the community."

Al-Hajri added, during a reception of a delegation from the Men of Dignity Movement, headed by its leader Sheikh Abu Diab Mazid Khaddaj, at his residence in the town of Qanawat, that "the recent ordeal that Sweida went through was aimed at annihilating the community in full view of the world."

This comes as part of efforts to unify ranks amid the growing public trend toward Sweida factions joining the National Guard forces. He emphasized that what happened was not just a passing incident, but rather an organized plan.

He explained that the residents "have embarked on a new path aimed at protecting their existence and ensuring a political, economic, and just future for the sect," emphasizing that "declaring a separate region is the way to ensure security and stability."

Al-Hajri also emphasized that the sect "has always called for peace and rejected attacks on others," noting that self-defense is a legitimate right in the face of the threats to Sweida.
