Abduction journalist Suleiman Muhammed is a crime against thought, expression

The Union of Independent Journalists and Writers published a written statement about the kidnapping of journalist Suleiman Muhammad Ahmed (editor of the Arabic section of Roj News Agency) by Kurdistan Democratic Party forces.

The statement condemned the kidnapping of journalist Suleiman Ahmed, and demanded that his fate be revealed as soon as possible and that the laws of freedom of journalistic work be respected.

The statement stressed that: “The kidnapping of Suleiman Ahmed is a crime against the journalistic law and freedom of thought and opinion. No institution or party in the Kurdistan region may allow itself to kidnap or hide any person under any pretext. If this journalist has a certain suspicion and there is a judicial order for his arrest, it must be clarified to public opinion by legal and humanitarian means. The reasons for the arrest must be disclosed to the institution in which he works and to public opinion. On the contrary, kidnapping and disappearing any journalist becomes an illegal act according to the current law of the Kurdistan region and Iraq.”

The statement stressed, "The security institutions in the region in general and the administration of the Fish Khabur (Simalka) border gate must reveal the fate of journalist Suleiman Ahmed as soon as possible and explain the reason for his arrest."
