A delegation from the Democratic Autonomous Administration of NE Syria held a meeting with parliamentarians and senators from the Italian Green, Left, Democratic and Five Star Movement parties, in the Parliament building in the Italian capital, Rome.

The delegation of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of NE Syria included the representative of the Autonomous Administration in Europe, Abdul Karim Omar, the spokeswoman for the Women’s Protection Units, Roxsan Muhammad, and the co-chair of the Autonomous Administration’s representation in Switzerland, Mediya Hassan.

The Italian delegation included Alienza Verdi, Marco Grimaldi, Davis Dore, Francesca Guerra, Tino Magni, Enzo Amandola and Riccardo Ricciardi

At the beginning of the meeting, a brief overview of the experience of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria was presented, emphasizing that all components of the region participated in establishing the Democratic Autonomous Administration of their own free will; Because of their belief that it meets its legitimate aspirations and ambitions, and that it is the way to preserve the bonds of coexistence and common values among all components.

The delegation also touched on the major role played by women, whether in terms of fighting mercenaries and maintaining security and stability in NE Syria, or through their effective participation in the institutions and structures of the Autonomous Administration.

On the other hand, the humanitarian situation in the areas of the DAA was discussed and the great challenges that the administration faces in securing the basic requirements and needs of citizens, especially in light of the weakness of international support, as all humanitarian aid provided by European countries and others comes through Damascus, and therefore it doesn’t reaches NE Syria.

The Autonomous Administration delegation pointed out the urgent need for the Italian government and other governments to adhere to their responsibilities in working to deliver humanitarian aid to NE Syria; To alleviate the burden of the economic crisis it is experiencing as a result of the unjust siege imposed on it from all sides.

Regarding the political challenges facing the Autonomous Administration, the delegation stressed that one of the most prominent challenges at this level is the absence of political recognition of the administration, in addition to keeping it outside the political process and the Geneva meetings under the Turkish veto, noting that excluding the administration from any attempts at a solution will be doomed to failure.

Regarding the security challenges, the Autonomous Administration delegation affirmed: “We were able to defeat one of the most dangerous terrorist organizations in the world, and we made great sacrifices in the battle to defeat terrorism on behalf of the entire world, but it must be emphasized that the defeat of ISIS was military, as the organization is still active and launches attacks on our regions from time to time through its cells, Without receiving support and assistance from the international community, it cannot be defeated permanently. In addition, tens of thousands of ISIS detainees in prisons and their families in the Al-Hol and Roj camps still feel like a time bomb that could explode at any moment..”

The delegation also touched on the crimes practiced by the Turkish occupation state, saying: “The Turkish army and its mercenaries, during brutal ground operations, occupied the areas of Afrin, Girê Spi, and Serêkaniyê, and these areas are witnessing various crimes and violations, including killings, kidnappings, torture, rape, demographic change, and others. in addition, the Turkish state continues at the same time to launch its attacks on AANES areas, via drones and warplanes, systematically targeting infrastructure and vital facilities, which exacerbates the humanitarian situation and puts the lives of millions of citizens at risk, and these practices and violations are war crimes.”

The Autonomous Administration delegation stressed the need for the international community to exert pressure on the Turkish state in order to put an end to these crimes, pointing out that their continuation would push towards a humanitarian catastrophe and force millions of citizens to emigrate.

In turn, the Italian delegation indicated that they are closely informed of the conditions and developments in NE Syria, and said: “We have been following the Rojava revolution since its beginnings, and in addition to the great role that you have played in the field of combating terrorism, you are presenting a democratic model and experience that cannot be ignored.”

Regarding the international community’s reluctance to carry out its responsibilities towards the AANES, the Italian delegation said: “It was hoped that after all the sacrifices made by the components of NE Syria in their battle against terrorism, they would receive various types of support  from all countries and governments.”

However, unfortunately, the challenges facing the Autonomous Administration are now being ignored,  as are its calls for action to put an end to the crimes and violations committed in the occupied territories, as well as those to which it is exposed as a result of the continuing attacks on the region.”

The Italian delegation confirmed that they will launch an appeal: “to call on the Italian government and the entire international community to adhere to their responsibilities towards the AANES, by supporting it on the economic and humanitarian levels, as well as pushing for its political recognition.”
