3 killed in armed attack in eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside

Three people were killed and two others wounded after unidentified gunmen targeted a vehicle belonging to Syria’s Interim Government in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, amid heightened security measures and without any official comment from the Interior Ministry so far.

According to local sources, unidentified armed men opened fire on a vehicle affiliated with the Interim Government as it was passing through the town of al-Bahra in eastern Deir ez-Zor.

The sources reported that the attack occurred late last night, when the assailants fired on the vehicle before fleeing the scene, prompting a security alert in the area. No official information has yet been released regarding the perpetrators or the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Local sources indicated that three members of the Interim Government forces were killed and two others injured. The Interior Ministry of the Interim Government has not issued any official statement at the time of writing.

It is worth noting that Interim Government forces entered the rural areas of Deir ez-Zor and took control of them following the withdrawal of the Syrian Democratic Forces in mid-January.
