13 killed in 24 hours in areas controlled by Syria’s interim govt 

Areas under the control of the interim government in Syria are witnessing a worrying surge in killings and insecurity, according to local residents, with 13 people reported killed over the past 24 hours.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), an elderly woman was killed following a violent assault during an armed robbery targeting her home in the al-Zahira al-Qadima neighborhood of Damascus. Syrian actress Huda al-Shaarawi was also killed inside her home in the Bab Srijeh neighborhood, in a crime believed to have been motivated by theft.

In a related incident, eyewitnesses reported that a young man from Afrin was killed by members affiliated with the interim government while attempting to flee the city of Raqqa toward areas controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces, sparking widespread public anger.

Meanwhile, three women were killed after gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire on a taxi on al-Ziyara Road in the Afrin countryside, northeast of Aleppo.

In the western countryside of Jindires, the body of an unidentified woman was found near the Lower Kafardali junction, under circumstances that remain unclear.

In the northern countryside of Raqqa, a civilian was killed when a landmine left over from the war exploded in the town of Tuwal al-Abbat, Suluk region.

Additionally, a killing took place in the eastern al-Deir village in the Idlib countryside, where a man stormed the home of his wife’s family and opened fire, killing five people.

Local residents say these incidents reflect a state of security chaos and the spread of crime amid weak law enforcement and accountability, calling for the protection of civilians and an end to the growing state of insecurity.
