UNESCO condemns targeting of JIN TV crew

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) condemned the targeting of the Jin TV crew and the martyrdom of the JIN TV member, Najm al-Din Faisal, and called for those responsible for the attack to be brought to justice.

In a statement, the Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, condemned the martyrdom of Najm al-Din Faysal al-Hajj Sinan, and said: "I deplore the killing of Najm el-Din Faisal Haj Sinan. I reiterate my call to the authorities to ensure the safety of journalists, media professionals and associated personnel in situations of armed conflict, in compliance with UNSC Resolution 2222. I urge them to investigate this attack and bring those responsible to justice".

UNESCO promotes the safety of journalists through global awareness-raising, capacity building and by coordinating the implementation of the UN Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity.

Najm al-Din Faisal was martyred, on the 23rd of last August, as a result of the bombing of the car he was driving, belonging to the Jin TV, on the road between Qamishlo and Amuda, as a result of the Turkish occupation’s drone bombing, and the channel’s correspondent, Dalila Agid, was with him and injured.
