Turkey's blocking of Euphrates water deprives 50,000 people of drinking water in Tabqa

The Turkish state’s blocking of the waters of the Euphrates River has led to a decrease in the water level of the river and lakes behind the dams built on it, and the drinking water pumping stations in many Syrian cities have gone out of service, the latest of which is the city of Tabqa.

9 drinking water pumping stations and its countryside, dependent on the Euphrates River in the city of Tabqa, went out of service this week, according to what was confirmed by the Tabqa Water Unit in its statement about the impact of the water pumping stations due to the decrease in the water level of the Euphrates River, on August 6.

The water unit confirmed to ANHA's agency the exit of the stations (al-Jarafat, al-Gharin, al-Bu Asi, the lifting station and the southern reservoir) that feed parts of the city of Tabqa, and the pump of Umm Al-Aswad, Tal Othman, Al-Anbar and Tawi, which feed areas in the countryside of Tabqa.

Each pump feeds more than 5,000 people.

The outage of the 9 stations, according to officials of the Tabqa Water Unit, deprived 50,000 residents of Tabqa city and its countryside of drinking water.

In a detailed explanation of the reality of the water stations on the Euphrates River in Tabqa and its countryside, the co-chair of the Tabqa Water Unit, Hammoud Al-Sheikh, told ANHA's agency, "Since Turkey blocking the Euphrates water, the water level began to decrease, and the water moved away from the center of the vertical stations, so we gradually took precautionary measures, Accordingly, the position of the pumps was converted from the vertical position to the horizontal position to secure drinking water for the people as much as possible, but despite that, 9 stations went out of service.

He added, "Turkey did not respect the international agreements and violate all international laws , and used water as a pressure card on the regions of North and East Syria, which caused a decrease in the Euphrates water level, and if the matter continues, more other stations will be out of service, and it will stop permanently, which heralds a humanitarian catastrophe for the region." .

Today, the people of many areas in the city of Tabqa and its countryside suffer from the cutting of drinking water, according to what the people confirm, as Muhammad Jerash and Yasser Al-Hardoubi said that they are now facing the cutting of drinking water after the pumps went out of service.

The Tabqa Water Unit, as an emergency solution, is trying to secure drinking water for the people through water tankers, according to the co-chair of the Tabqa Water Unit, Hammoud Al-Sheikh.
