What is Washington's position on AANES initiative?

In a nine-point declaration published on Tuesday, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria affirmed its commitment to Syria's territorial integrity, in addition to its readiness to "meet and conduct dialogue with the Syrian government and all parties."

The initiative stressed that such efforts would not contradict the stalled efforts led by the United Nations to end the conflict. However, the document stressed that "the solution to the Syrian crisis must take place within the country."

The co-chair of the Department of Foreign Relations in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, Badran Çia Kurd, said in an interview with the American website Al-Monitor, “The conflict in Ukraine, along with the Arab communication with Assad, has changed the calculations,” explaining, “We want a Syrian-Syrian dialogue. We demand the international parties, the White House and Russia to support this initiative that will bring stability and peace to Syria.” Çia Kurd stressed that “any international actor that pressures us to stop this initiative means that they are against resolving the conflict.”

A spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told the site, regarding the initiative of the Autonomous Administration, and did not convey any public objections to the administration's calls for dialogue with Damascus, calling for diplomatic dialogue points instead.

"We have read this initiative and noted that it affirms the unity of Syria as the basis for any political solution, in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2254, which is the only viable solution to the conflict in Syria," the spokesperson said.

The official pointed out that "US efforts in Syria under the Biden administration focus on stabilizing the situation in Syria through a proactive policy to maintain the ceasefire,  defeat ISIS and expand humanitarian access."

The official concluded, "These efforts focus on helping Syrians find a more stable and secure life that enhances resilience in the face of ISIS influence, while creating the necessary conditions to advance a political solution through Security Council Resolution No. 2254."

Al-Monitor indicated that the most striking thing is that the Autonomous Administration is ready to receive millions of internally displaced Syrians and millions of others who are not wanted by the host governments in Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey.

Çia Kurd insisted that the Autonomous Administration is acting from a purely humanitarian standpoint.
