Delegation from Union of Arab Parliaments visits Damascus

On Saturday, the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union announced the formation of a delegation to visit Syria, affirming its "support and standing by its people after the earthquake that struck a number of cities and villages," calling for "the need to work on its return to its Arab surroundings and to exercise its role at various levels."

The office of the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Muhammad al-Halbousi, said in a brief statement, according to Roj News Agency, that: "President al-Halbousi headed a delegation from the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union to Syria." Yesterday, Al-Halbousi called on "the Arab countries to take a final decision regarding Syria's return to the Arab space."

The Speaker of the Egyptian Parliament, Hanafi Jabali, confirmed in a statement from Damascus International Airport, "the support of the Arab parliaments for Syria and their standing by its people," noting that "Syria will return to its natural place in the Arab League and the Arab House, and that this visit is to support Syrian government, and its people."

Jabali said, "We came to the dear, brotherly Syria to show solidarity with it and support its people in facing the repercussions of the earthquake," pointing out that "other Arab parliamentary delegations will arrive successively in Damascus today, after the 34th conference of the Arab Parliamentary Union that was held in Baghdad yesterday decided to form a delegation to visit Syria."

It is noteworthy that since the occurrence of the earthquake that struck the areas of Bakur Kurdistan and Turkey and affected areas in Syria, some Arab countries tended to normalize relations with the Damascus government, taking advantage of sending humanitarian aid, amid talk in Arab circles about the return of the Damascus government to the Arab League.

The head of the Executive Body of the Syrian Democratic Council; Elham Ahmed considered that the unconditional dealings with the Damascus government do not result in a political solution, according to what she stated to the newspaper "Al-Sharq Al-Awsat", stressing that the need to present an Arab project to solve the Syrian crisis.
