KRC: KDP hampers aid in Faysh Khabour crossing

During the recent earthquake that struck Syria, the Kurdish Red Crescent in NE Syria provided assistance for those affected, but several parties in Syria and Iraq politicized the aid file and the earthquake. This hindered the provision of more aid, depriving thousands of Syrians of it.

An earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale struck Bakur (Northern Kurdistan), Turkey and Syria, at dawn on Monday, February 6, and affected the regions of northern and eastern Lebanon, and its aftershocks spread across the eastern Mediterranean region, leaving great destruction and leading to the loss of 3,694 people in Syria.

Last Wednesday, the Kurdish Red Crescent announced, in a written statement on its official website, its readiness to help the afflicted in any affected area as a humanitarian response, but the Turkish occupation state and the Damascus government prevented it from reaching the affected people.

The Kurdish Red Crescent faces new obstacles to the delivery of aid, as the authorities of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in Başûr prevent the crossing of humanitarian aid to the Kurdish Red Crescent in NE Syria, from the Semalka crossing, according to what the Kurdish Red Crescent revealed in a statement, published on its identifiers.

The Co-chair of the Kurdish Red Crescent, Eva Ali told ANHA agency that "There is aid intended for NE Syria and it is supposed to be distributed through the Crescent, but the Democratic Party authorities prevent its crossing through the Semalka crossing." .

Eva indicated that "the administration of the Faysh Khabour crossing prevents aid from crossing into NE Syria, without explaining the reasons."

The aid facing the prevention of crossing into north and east Syria belongs to the partners of the Kurdish Red Crescent abroad, and to some popular initiatives in Başûr and Europe, initiatives of patriotic personalities, and some patriotic Kurds, according to what Eva pointed out, and it includes "medicines, infant formula, tents, sleeping equipment, and first aid and relief materials".

Eva confirmed, "The people of the affected areas, such as Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafieh, and Shahba in Aleppo will benefit by 70%, because they are the most affected, and those affected in Manbij and Kobani will benefit by 30%."

"Preventing the transit of aid will have great repercussions, and thousands of those affected will be deprived of that much-needed aid," she noted.
