​​​​​​​Myriad crimes in occupied Girê Spî canton during 2022

Turkey and its mercenaries occupied Girê Spî canton and large parts of its countryside following an occupation attack on October 9, 2019, and since then they have been practicing the most heinous crimes of killing, displacement, kidnapping, looting and looting of property and forcibly confiscating it by force of arms.

ANHA’s agency has documented, through its sources, the crimes of the Turkish occupier and his mercenaries in the occupied Girê Spî canton since its occupation, and in this report we present the crimes documented by our agency's correspondents during the year 2022.

  * More than 100,000 citizens have been displaced out of 170,000 residents of the occupied canton, and they are currently distributed in the cities of Raqqa and Tabqa and its countryside, in addition to 6,650 displaced people in the camp for the displaced from Girê Spî, which was established by the Autonomous Administration on November 22, 2019, near the village of Tal Al-Saman. 35 km north of Raqqa.

Killing

The young man Moataz Abdi (17 years old) from the Bakara clan was killed by the mercenary Mohammad Khalifa of the "Sultan Murad" mercenaries, on December 16, 2022, due to a dispute over the wages of work in the shop in which the young man works.

It was preceded by the killing of the young man, Aziz Mahmoud al-Mustafa, under torture in the "Military Police" prison of the mercenaries.

kidnapping

* Our agency documented during 2022 the kidnapping of 8 citizens, including a clan notable.

They are: Mustafa Al-Arar (Al-Bu Assaf clan), Issa Al-Shawakh (Al-Bu Jaber clan), Ibn Hassan Al-Othman, a high school student, and Mohammad Al-Alo (Al-Ahwas clan), after his family paid two million pounds (S.Y pounds) to the mercenary leaders in exchange for his release.

In addition to Hassan Ahmed Najm Al-Shawakh (30 years) from (the Arab Albu Jaber clan) and Hafez Salih Al-Jassim (25 years), those who was demanded form families 11 million for their release, and Khader Salih Al-Jasem asked his relatives for a ransom of 4 thousand US dollars.

All of the kidnapped persons are from the town of Al-Ali and Baglia, 15 km south of the canton. During the last month of 2022, one of the notables of the Al-Bu Assaf clan was kidnapped from the same town, called Hail Jassim Khalaf Al-Hassan, who is the nephew of the clan sheikh, Hail Al-Hassan.

Confiscating the lands of the displaced and stealing their crops

The farmers of the occupied Girê Spî canton suffer from the domination of the leaders of the mercenary groups affiliated with the Turkish occupation, their seizure of large areas of agricultural land for the displaced, and their construction of artificial dams on the (Qaramox River), thus depriving hundreds of farmers of watering their crops.

According to sources, the largest part of agricultural land in the western countryside was seized by the "Al-Majd Corps" of the Turkish occupation, where the head of the economic office in the corps called "Haj Abdo Al-Safrani" turned into the largest farmer in the region, after seizing nearly 5 thousand dunums distributed most of these areas belong to farmers of the Kurdish component who were forcibly displaced after the October 9, 2019 attack.

Our agency also documented, through a source from the occupied canton, the seizure of more than 2,000 dunums by the so-called "Battalion 51" of the "Al-Jabha Al-Shamia" mercenaries in each of the villages (Tanhouza - Al-Mutaklatah) in the western countryside of the canton as well.

Farmers who buy the fuel they need to run their engines also has affected form the stealing, as our agency documented in April 2022 that mercenaries (Abu Zayan, Abu Bilal, and Abu Yazan) stole 13 barrels of diesel from farmer Fadi Ramadan (Kirmazah village). In addition to two phones and a sum of 130,000 SY.

Destroying the homes of the displaced

The Turkish occupation mercenaries destroyed 25 houses in the village of Shirkrak near the M4 international road, in addition to completely destroying the house of the displaced Abd al-Razzaq al-Omar in the countryside of Suluk town of Girê Spî canton, by military bulldozers.

Crimes against women

The mercenary Mohammad al-Halabi (al-Hamzat) kidnapped and raped the young woman Fatima al-Ali (19 years old). The occupation had deported her to the occupied Girê Spî district with her family, who is from the city of Homs.

The wife of the brother of the head of the "Tal Abyad Local Council" affiliated with the Turkish occupation, Saleh Al-Abdullah, called Anoud Al-Farat from (the village of Al-Boz) was insulted by a Turkish soldier in the occupied Girê Spî canton, during a campaign they carried out to kidnap some young men from her relatives, while Saleh took the initiative to hand over 9 citizens of his village after being threatened by the Turkish governor.

Opening a school to spread extremist ideology

Ansar Charitable Society and Bait Al-Mal (Pakistan National Relief Foundation) rehabilitated a school in the village of Khirbet Al-Raz in the countryside of the occupied Girê Spî district / Tel Abyad, during the year 2022 to spread extremist ideology.

Deportation of more than 6,000 settlers to the occupied Girê Spî

In continuation of the policy of demographic change in the areas occupied by Turkey, the Turkish authorities deported, during the year 2022, more than 6,000 Syrian refugees residing in its lands to the Syrian interior through the Girê Spî/Tal Abyad gate.

According to our agency's sources, these settlers lived in the homes of the displaced from the occupied canton, pending the completion of the settlements that the Turkish occupation is building with Qatari and Kuwaiti funds and Brotherhood associations, which are being built in each of the town of Ain al-Arous and the outskirts of the occupied canton from the western side, on the lands of the displaced, who were confiscated by the "Council of Tel Abyad the local" their property and donated it to his Turkish masters to build settlements on it.
