Hussein Hajji: Shengal people were able to confront all malicious plans by their will

In the past two decades, the Shengal province has witnessed rapid, dramatic developments. After the US intervention in Iraq in 2003, the Democratic Party imposed its control over the judiciary, and tried to create a rift between the Yazidi community and other components in the Nineveh Plain.

This was followed by the party handing over the Shengal province to ISIS, during the attacks of ISIS mercenaries on August 3, 2014, which led to horrific massacres against the Yazidi community, which realized that the only option was to move according to the concept of self-defense and the revolutionary war of the people.

* How do you evaluate the current situation in Shengal?

The current situation in Shengal is somewhat stable, politically, security and socially, and there are relations between the security services on the ground, and also some understandings and relations between the Yazidi parties are good, and it is no secret to you that there are differences between the parties’ program, everyone is looking for their interests and controlling the situation to be the leader.

* What are the most prominent difficulties that the sons of Shengal face now?

First: the continuous Turkish bombardment of the Shengal areas, and this has confused the political and social situation, especially the work of the Autonomous Administration in the organizational situation and stability.

Second: the informality of the administration, and this affects the return of the displaced, the provision of services, and the construction of projects in Shengal, and the failure of the Nineveh governor to deal with the administration in Shengal; Under the pretext that it is unofficial and take advantage of the funds allocated to spend Shengal.

Third: The internal and external interference in Shengal's affairs, which hinders the process of building Shengal.

* After the liberation of Shengal, several plans were made against Shengal, with the aim of subjugating him to the policy of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, which it abandoned during the ISIS attacks. How do you evaluate this?

The first conspiracy was when the Peshmerga and the Democratic Party took control of Shengal in 2004, after the collapse of the Baathist regime, and they sabotaged the relations between the Yazidis and the Arab component surrounding Shengal, and severing Shengal’s relationship with the central government and the second conspiracy on August 3, 2014. The plots and conspiracies are still continuing until now, and all a conspiracy and policy are in a way different from the other, as all these conflicts are fabricated in order to subject the region to their control, but the will of the people of Shengal was stronger than their malice and their vile schemes, and we will repel them.

* Shengal witnessed remarkable developments after its liberation from ISIS, and its sons announced their AA’s areas for the first time in the modern era. However, this development was accompanied by Turkey’s attacks in 2017. What are Turkey’s goals and objectives in Shengal, and who supports Turkey in that?

Shengal witnessed remarkable and good developments on the ground, especially after its liberation from the ISIS clutches, from building the Autonomous Administration and all its service departments (about 12 departments), such as municipalities, health, education and service projects, and on the other hand, building military and security forces; Such as the Shengal Resistance Units, the Shengal Resistance Units - Women, and the    Asayîşa Êzidxanê forces, and everyone works according to their specialization and work in the region, and the people have full confidence in their sons and daughters in protecting Shengal internally and externally.

* Why is the Iraqi government silent about the Turkish attacks against Shengal?

First: silence is a sign of contentment, and all successive Iraqi governments do not have a government program to manage and defend the state. There are also international agendas that affect its work, because it is not the decision-maker and is subject to American, Turkish and Iranian pressures; Sometimes they issue timid statements and are not at the required level regarding the repeated Turkish aggressions, and we do not hope for anything from them.

Q: What are the hopes for the new Iraqi government, and is there any communication with it?

Frankly, we did not see anything better than the one that preceded it, but we hope that this government will change its program towards the people of Shengal.

The situation in Iraq is confused, and there are difficulties for the new government, and it is possible that visits to Baghdad will be conducted during this period, but we are waiting for the government to act.
