Last Saturday, a Kurdish-Arab dialogue meeting was held in the German city of Bochum, organized by the Kurdish Center for Studies and the Tolerance Association, in the presence of thirty political and academic figures and activists from the Kurdish and Arab components.

At the Kurdish-Arab dialogue meeting, the participants agreed that what unites the two peoples is an existential affair determined by the common destiny and existential threat. They also reached a new event that reaches wider spaces and new social groups and parties on both sides.

A very important inauguration of a sustainable logic

And about the atmosphere of the meeting and its discussions, Hamza Khaled Saqati, the Syrian political activist and participant in the Bochum meeting, who comes from the Syrian city of Hama, spoke to our agency, "The meeting was very important as it deals with a crucial issue that concerns our lives in Syria and the Middle East, i.e. the Arab-Kurdish relationship."

"The meeting succeeded in making significant progress, at least from the point of view of inaugurating, not a dialogue activity, but a sustainable logic for an Arab-Kurdish interactive relationship that expresses itself through a series of subsequent steps in this context," Saqati stressed.

 A common destiny, one enemy

The people of the region, with all its components, face challenges and dangers threatening their existence, in light of the intensification of international and regional conflicts over the region.

Among these challenges is the attempt of regional powers, led by Turkey, to impose hegemony on the region by talking about its right to recover this region through the implementation of the Milli pact and the neo-Ottomanism.

In light of these challenges, she called on many Arab and Kurdish personalities, parties, and currents to participate in facing common dangers and forming an alliance between peoples.

Saqati spoke about the importance of strengthening Arab-Kurdish relations in light of the current circumstances and challenges, "I think that what brings together Arabs and Kurds is not only common interests, but a common destiny. The enemy is one, and the challenges and dangers are one. Therefore, I see that the Arab-Kurdish dialogue, according to that meaning, has a foundational value in  making this destiny bright, rich, present and creative."

Ocalan's thought and philosophy radically address the crises of the peoples of the region

On the importance of the idea of the democratic nation and the brotherhood of peoples advocated by the leader Abdullah Ocalan at this stage, Saqati said, "I must first and foremost  show my solidarity with Mr. Abdullah Ocalan, who has been detained for more than two decades in circumstances that violate international human rights standards.  I see him as an exceptional intellectual and political stature, the absence of whom negatively affected the issues of the Kurds and the region."

He added, "Within the limits of my modest knowledge of Mr. Abdullah Ocalan's writings, his theoretical readings and his huge writings require a specialized reader who possesses high reading and composition tools.  their lives and protecting them from all the dangers they face, and that liberating him from his detention is a fundamental matter and a question that is not only humane and moral, but also political and practical.”

We are not in different trenches

In turn, a member of the Relations Committee of the Democratic Union Party and participating in the dialogue meeting, Roshan Muslim, spoke about the importance of dialogue, "Dialogue is a step to try to understand the other, to engage in dialogue means that we put down arms and abandon persecution, and dialogue remains the alternative for them."

She added, "Just sitting for dialogue is understanding the other, abandoning old positions and stopping previous perceptions, which is that we are not in different trenches. We are in the end human beings who must coexist. This is the first important step to start the dialogue, to end the old estrangement that was mixed with misunderstanding, oppression and the abolition of the other. The dialogue is to abandon all this stage to start a new stage.

Cooperation leads to peace

Roshen sent a message to the peoples of the region, "The importance of this is that people begin to think that we are not the only nation in the world. There is more than one color, more than one religion, and more than one race. War and discord are not the solution."

She added, "Dialogue, coexistence, understanding, coexistence, and understanding that this land accommodates everyone. This is the goal of dialogue."

Roshen spoke about the importance of cooperation in light of common challenges, "Dialogue is a very important step, because everyone has begun to understand that life is common and the challenge is an existential challenge not only for Arabs but also for Kurds, not only Kurds but Assyrians and all forms of groups or existing types of humanity. Fascism and extremism are hostile to life and we pray for life.

She added, "Therefore, any cooperation between two nationalities, means peace, prosperity and benefiting from both sides. Cooperation for the reconstruction is shared."

The solution is to build a democratic society

Roshan spoke about the best solution to solve the region's crises. "In the end, there is a project that everyone must adopt, as the Kurdish thinker Abdullah Ocalan said. This project is to build a democratic society in which everyone lives within the framework of opinion and the other opinion within the framework of free choice, democracy and the election box, not with the barrel of a gun."

She explained, "This project is not directed only to the Kurdish nation, it is directed to all nations, any nation that wants to live, it must live in a democratic framework that equals human beings, equals between women and men. It presents a secular and democratic project that does not deal with people on the basis of their gender or religion, rather on the basis that he is a citizen of this nation.”

She added, "It is not limited to Kurds and Arabs only, but includes all sects and components from all the nearby communities that live next to each other from Syria, Iraq and Turkey. The important thing is to oppose fascism and terrorism in the name of nationalism, and oppose national domination over another nationalism and national oppression of another nationalism."
