Another disciplinary punishment on leader imposed before visit of CPT to Imrali

There is no news about the leader Abdullah Ocalan and the other detainees in Imrali Prison; Omar Khairi Konar, Wissi Aktas and Hamili Yildirim have been around for more than 18 months.

The requests of detainees' lawyers and families to meet with them are hampered on several pretexts, such as "disciplinary punishment" and "a ban on meeting." It turned out that the leader Ocalan and the other three detainees were subjected to another disciplinary punishment that lasts for three months, according to the Mesopotamia news agency.

The three-month disciplinary penalty imposed by the Disciplinary Authority has expired. On the 16th of last September, the lawyers of the Asrin Law Office submitted a new request to the Republic Public Prosecution in the Turkish city of Bursa in order to meet their client, but their request was not answered. Subsequently, on the 23rd of the same month, the lawyers submitted a request to the Republican Public Prosecution Office in Bursa and the Imrali Prison Directorate, demanding that the detainees be allowed to meet with their families. The lawyers made it clear that if there was another disciplinary penalty, they objected that they should be notified of the copies of the decision in the file. But the Enforcement Court in Bursa rejected the lawyers’ request on the 5th of October.

On 3 October, the European Committee Against Torture (CPT) announced its visit to Turkey between 20 and 29 September, and revealed that it had visited Imrali prison.

It is noteworthy that with the decision to ban the last meeting, 12 disciplinary penalties have been imposed since 2018, and lawyers have not been informed in any way of the reasons for these penalties.
