CPT to prepare report of last visit to Imrali in March next year

A delegation from the European Committee against Torture (CPT) visited prisons in Turkey between September 20-29.

During this visit, the delegation went to Imrali Prison (Model F) and maximum security; To investigate the terms and conditions of the imprisonment of the leader Abdullah Ocalan, Hamili Yildirim, Omer Khairy Konar and Wisi Aktas.

The delegation of the European Committee against Torture discussed the proposals related to Imrali prison with officials in the Turkish occupying state, which had not implemented any of the proposals made by the Committee before now.

In this regard, the head of the European Committee Against Torture delegation and the second vice-presidency of the European Committee against Torture, Therese Ritter, who visited Imrali prison for the Mesopotamia Agency (MA), indicated that the committee will prepare the report in March of 2023, and send it to Turkey.

"We have set a six-month deadline for Turkey to respond to our demands, at which time the committee will decide whether to publish its report or not," said Therese Ritter.

In response to a question about the health status of the leader Abdullah Ocalan, she said, "I can say that we went to visit prisoners in Turkey, but I can not deploy these evidence, but will be announced by the Commission in its report.

The European Committee against Torture last visited Imrali prison in 2019, but did not disclose in its report this visit, which took place 3 years ago, and about this Therese Ritter said, “We do not take the decision to publish the report of the European Committee against Torture (CPT) (and the state’s response). , but the member state makes this decision. The Turkish government should be asked about it.
