The President of the Turkish occupying state, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, talked a lot about Safe Zone on his country's southern border with Syria. The first proposal was in May 2013, during a visit to Washington, under the fake pretext the "protection of Syrian civilians fleeing the hell of war", and the "protection of Turkey's borders."

In this context, Turkey has become a transit corridor for ISIS and al-Qaeda mercenaries, who have deployed over large areas in Iraq and Syria, in order to disseminate religious and national extremism with the support and guidance of the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, seeking to achieve the "neo-Ottomanism.”

Erdogan's project received harsh blows through the SDF's elimination of ISIS/Daesh in Syria, but experts confirmed that ISIS/Daesh would end entirely only by taking Turkey out of Syria.

Turkish occupied areas in the north of Syria have become a hotbed for mercenaries and extremists from ISIS and al-Qaeda. Earlier images and videos from the Serêkaniyê/Ras al-Ain revealed a public appearance of elements of ISIS mercenaries, with Turkish occupying state mercenaries in the Ras al-Ain raised the flag of ISIS mercenaries.

Turkey is a sponsor of terrorism

In this context, American Enterprise Institute (AEI) researcher Michael Rubin says: "Objectively, Turkey should be classified as a state sponsor of terrorism and should join the blacklists of countries involved in human trafficking and violations of religious freedom."

The researcher also points out that there are three obstacles to Turkey's designation as a state sponsor of terrorism: "There are three obstacles. Firstly, the absence of any unanimous definition of terrorism in international law allows Turkey, literally, to go unpunished. Secondly, Europe and the United States are subjective and diminish their work based on their perceived need for Turkey's contribution to NATO. Third, NATO allows itself to be blackmailed. "

Safe zone as a pretext to consolidate occupation

On 23^rd May 2022, the President of the Turkish occupying state, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, revealed his country's intention to complete the establishment of a "safe zone" on the southern border of Turkey, i.e. in northern Syria, 30 km deep.

Erdogan's words are not the first of their kind. He constantly reiterates that he seeks to establish a "safe zone" in northern Syria. But murder, stealing, rape and abduction are common in these areas. "Everyone knows that Erdogan is not interested in humanitarian protection, but rather looking for an excuse to occupy northern Syria to change the demographics by resettling Arab Islamists in traditional Kurdish areas."

ISIS and al-Qaeda are Erdogan's allies

ISIS/Daesh mercenaries’ leaders Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurashi were killed in the town of Atma near the Turkish border, and the Syrian city of Idlib (adjacent to the Turkish border) houses thousands of "al-Qaeda" mercenaries.

On Erdogan's relentless attempts to revive ISIS, Rubin says: "ISIS and al-Qaeda-related groups such as Jabhet al-Nusra and its successor organizations are Erdogan's ideological allies. He doesn't want to recognize his role in supporting them. But he sees both groups as tools in his arsenal to revive the caliphate.”
